  • Survival guide to a new job & a new city

    by asphaire

While this is my fourth major move as an 'expat,' I have to admit there are some things that may seem basic to others, but that I'm still learning with each new move. I've gotten much better at negotiating, getting what I deserve (and want), and making sure I'm valued for what I'm worth. Having said that, maybe it's social conditioning or it could...

  • Taking stock

    by asphaire

It’s that time of year again where we get to look back on the year that was and resolve to do better and be better in the year(s) to come. While changing for the better is ideally practiced every day and at every possible moment, there is something romantic about doing a yearly ‘one-time-big-time’ exercise of taking stock of our lives and doing a...

  • Berlin brunch places

    by asphaire

While the concept of brunch can apparently "be partly traced back to the upper-class British tradition of hunting luncheons," it's the Americans who popularised Sunday brunch, complete with boozy drinks. I'm neither British nor American, but I've always enjoyed the idea of having a laid-back morning somewhere between "very early" and "oh no the day is half over" while enjoying a spread of eggs,...

    A matter of perspective

    by asphaire

Do you see yourself as a victim? Or do you see opportunity even in hard times? Do you go through life blaming the world for your situation? Before I get into that, allow me to talk cinema for a bit.

  • Fruits of the vine

    by asphaire

When wine is served in beautiful crystal glasses by Swiss-trained waiters in three-Michelin-star restaurants, it’s difficult to let the imagination travel back to this fermented beverage’s humble beginnings. Long before it became a bubbly that can push a cork out with a hearty pop, and long before it acquired the grace to flow smoothly out of an expensive bottle, it hung loosely and peacefully...

Skincare review: The Ordinary by Deciem

    by asphaire

You know that glow some celebrities have that makes them look way above average and stand out in a crowd like some sort of goddess? It's called beautiful skin. In my line of work, I've met enough celebrities and TV personalities to know that the ethereal beauty that makes them so mesmerising goes beyond makeup. Beautiful, healthy, youthful skin makes a world of difference and for...

Loving how there are so many women who lift at the gym. 💪🏻 We know what we’re doing, mate! #girlswholift
Been quiet for a while, but I’m back. Still lifting, still doing #yoga. It’s been a crazy two weeks, major upheavals in different aspects of life, making way for amazing things to come, but certainly exhausting as it’s all unfolding. Spent some time this weekend at my happy place, getting my weekly dose of Rocket Yoga. Looking forward to reconnecting with my fave #fitfam girls 🤗 Happy weekend 💕 . . “Not all the upcoming changes will be easy or pleasant, but the only way out is through.”
Excited to join the #bbgcommunity #bbggirls on Jan 14 on a new @kayla_itsines #BBG round 💪🏻🙌🏻 Here’s a #throwback progress pic from pre-BBG days to two years later. Life changed in so many ways 💕 Looking forward to working out with everyone! #kaylaitsines #thekaylamovement #bbgprogress
Sharing what I’ve done with my little space in this new city. It’s not easy to be far away from your spouse because of work, so in order to not feel too sad, I tried to turn this small studio into a cozy little haven that feels like home. I still have room for my #BBG workouts and #yoga of course! Right in front of the window with lots of light 💜 #expatlife
What beautiful gifts to receive from such creative and thoughtful family. A custom-designed @siggswitzerland flask (check out the back too, my little contribution 🤗 #hustleandheart) by my talented cousin @lddesignloft sent all the way from Canada (perfect for workouts, yoga and meeting my daily H2O needs), and handmade necklaces from my super creative mother-in-law 💜💜💜 You can order that custom design on a product of your choice from @lddesignloft’s page on Zazzle. It’s really sooooo beautiful 😍🤗
On Sundays we squat (and rest) 🤫🏋🏻‍♀️
When you’re craving for something warm on a cold Saturday, this is perfect. Lentils, mushrooms, onion, garlic and lots of spinach, cooked in a little tomato paste, cayenne pepper, masala spice, coriander powder, black pepper, pink salt, and a bit of cream. Topped with Greek yoghurt and cayenne pepper in melted butter. Add quinoa for more crunch 👌🏻 Recipe on blog. (LINK IN BIO.)
😂 Happy Thursday, everyone! (Pic via @houseofboylan, @letterfolk.)

Gooey vegan chocolate fudge brownies

by asphaire

There’s such s great feeling of fulfilment when you come across something that simply works. That’s how I felt when I came across red kidney beans (haricot rouge) and used it as the main ingredient in making chocolate fudge. I kid you not, it is delicious. I’ve made this so many times that I’ve lost count, and each time, friends and family fall in love with it. This healthier version of chocolate fudge is one you should definitely try.

Review: Bulletproof coffee?

by asphaire

Is it a hype or does it work? The first time a good friend of mine mentioned bulletproof coffee or BPC, I visibly flinched. How can coffee, butter and coconut oil be good, let alone drinkable?! I soon discovered its cult-like following on social media, and numerous fitness influencers who swear by its effects. Of course, I have also come across articles warning me of...

4 books to find your ‘why’ and figure out the ‘how’

by asphaire

What’s your why? That is the single most important question you should answer for yourself. Your why may stay the same or change over time, so it’s crucial to constantly reassess and always have this ultimate personal truth in mind. It’s not faux spirituality or an abstract new age concept. It’s logical and quite simple: how can you be the captain of your own...
